The Wisconsin Forest Landowner Grant Program (FLGP) is a direct grant program administered jointly by the Wisconsin DNR and the USDA Forest Service that provides up to $10,000 per project to private non-industrial forest landowners for approved forestry and conservation practices. Unlike tax incentive programs or easement programs, FLGP provides direct grant dollars — money that goes toward paying for your approved forestry work.
FLGP is funded through USDA Forest Service Cooperative Forestry assistance grants distributed through Wisconsin DNR’s Division of Forestry. In 2026, Wisconsin’s FLGP allocation continues to fund invasive species management, reforestation, forest stand improvement, and riparian forestry restoration — all practices that Aspen Land Management performs.
💡 What makes FLGP especially valuable for western Wisconsin landowners: FLGP prioritizes projects that address invasive species (buckthorn, honeysuckle, garlic mustard) and forest stand health — the exact issues facing most woodland owners in St. Croix, Polk, Pierce, Dunn, and Barron County forests. We see landowners who need this work done but hesitate because of cost. FLGP can dramatically reduce or eliminate that barrier.
2026 FLGP Eligible Practices
- Invasive species control — mechanical removal (forestry mulching) of buckthorn, honeysuckle, Autumn olive, multiflora rose: primary priority category
- Forest stand improvement — thinning, pruning, TSI for improved timber health
- Reforestation — tree planting on cutover or degraded forest sites
- Riparian forest buffer establishment — site prep and planting along waterways
- Prescribed fire preparation — fuel reduction and firebreak establishment
- Forest access — access road improvement for management purposes
