Do you clear buckthorn?
Yes. Aspen Land Management LLC clears common buckthorn and glossy buckthorn from wooded lots, trails, fence rows, acreage, property edges, and overgrown areas across Eastern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. Do you clear honeysuckle?
Yes. Aspen clears non-native honeysuckle, vines, invasive brush, saplings, and dense undergrowth from overgrown properties, fence rows, trails, and wooded edges. Honeysuckle and buckthorn are often cleared together as part of the same project.
Do you clear box elder trees?
Aspen clears box elder saplings and small box elder trees when they are part of brush clearing, land clearing, trail clearing, fence line clearing, or overgrown lot cleanup. Larger or hazardous box elder tree work may require a separate scope.
Do you clear cedar?
Yes. Aspen clears cedar saplings and small cedar growth where it is taking over fence rows, trails, pastures, wooded edges, or overgrown acreage. Larger cedar removal, hauling, stump work, or finish grading may require a separate scope unless specifically included in the written quote.

Is buckthorn invasive? What about box elder and cedar?
Common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) and glossy buckthorn are DNR-classified invasive species in Minnesota and Wisconsin and may crowd out native plants. Non-native honeysuckle is also classified as invasive. Box elder and cedar are native, fast-growing species that may become unwanted when they encroach on fence rows, trails, or pasture edges. We handle all of these regularly.
What is the best time of year to clear buckthorn?
Winter clearing is often ideal for buckthorn because buckthorn retains its leaves when native species go dormant, making it easy to identify and target selectively. Frozen ground also minimizes soil disturbance. We clear buckthorn year-round, however.
Do you haul the material away?
With forestry mulching, all brush, saplings, and vegetation is ground on-site into a natural mulch layer. No haul-away is needed. This eliminates disposal costs and leaves the property with an erosion-resistant surface ready to seed or use immediately. For projects requiring hauling, chipping, or piling, that scope will be specified in the written quote.

Do I need a permit to clear land in Wisconsin or Minnesota?
Most upland rural parcels in Wisconsin and Minnesota do not require a permit for land clearing. However, both states have shoreland and wetland buffer protections. Can you clear land near wetlands or waterways?
Clearing near wetlands requires careful review. Both Minnesota and Wisconsin protect wetland buffer zones, typically 50-300 feet depending on the wetland type and county. Forestry mulching is one of the least disruptive clearing methods near sensitive areas because it does not scrape topsoil or disrupt drainage. What is forestry mulching and how does it work?
Forestry mulching is a one-pass land clearing method using a tracked machine with a high-speed mulching head. It cuts, grinds, and mulches trees, brush, saplings, and invasive species simultaneously, leaving the material as a natural mulch layer on-site. No haul trucks, no burning, no separate passes. The result is cleared, accessible land with topsoil fully intact and erosion controlled by the mulch layer.

Do I need a permit for forestry mulching on my property?

What should I do after forestry mulching?

What should I spray after forestry mulching?
If your property had a significant buckthorn or honeysuckle infestation, applying herbicide to fresh stumps and root crowns immediately after mulching is the most effective way to reduce regrowth. Triclopyr-based herbicides (cut-stump or basal bark treatment) are commonly recommended by MN DNR for buckthorn control. Aspen Land Management provides ROW clearing for utilities, municipalities, road departments, and private landowners across Eastern Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.
Can you clear vegetation from power line easements and utility corridors?
Yes. Aspen Land Management performs right-of-way clearing for electric utilities, gas lines, fiber optic corridors, and pipeline easements. Forestry mulching is the preferred ROW clearing method because it clears the full corridor in a single pass without removing topsoil or leaving slash piles.
Do you clear road right-of-way for municipalities and counties?

How long does it take to get a written quote?
Most written quotes are delivered within 48 hours of the site visit. Complex or multi-acre projects may take slightly longer. We provide realistic timelines with every written quote.
How soon can work begin after I approve a quote?
From initial call to job start, most clients are scheduled within 1-2 weeks of approving the written quote. Timing depends on current project schedule and weather conditions. We will give you a target start date when you approve the scope.
What information do you need to provide an accurate estimate?
The most useful information is the property address or GPS coordinates, approximate acreage or footage to be cleared, photos of the vegetation if possible, and what you want to accomplish (access, cleanup, construction prep, etc.). With this, Aspen can often provide a preliminary range estimate before the site visit.
