StatusPlanning & funding development

Supporting the development of a community-centered initiative connecting healthy aging, transportation access, accessibility, environmental stewardship and meaningful participation.

This is not a completed clearing project. It is an initiative in planning. Aspen Land Management is supporting The Butterfly Path, Inc. and its 570 Coulee initiative with project development, funding strategy, implementation planning and community coordination. The initiative belongs to The Butterfly Path; Aspen does not own or operate it.

What the initiative is

570 Coulee is an initiative of The Butterfly Path, Inc., a community organization in Hudson, Wisconsin. It is being developed around healthy aging, connection, accessibility, stewardship, community participation, nature access and long-term land planning — with the aim of making it easier for people in the surrounding rural and semi-rural area to stay active and involved as they get older.

Transportation and accessibility form one component of a larger project, not the whole of it.

The Six Areas Being Developed

Workstreams currently in planning. None of these is an operating service yet.

01

Healthy Aging & Community Connection

Programming and partner referral pathways intended to help older adults in the area stay active, supported and connected to one another.

02

Accessible Nature Experiences

Planning for routes and rest points so that getting out onto the land is realistic for people with a wide range of mobility.

03

Adaptive Equipment & Accessibility

Working out what adaptive and durable medical equipment would be needed, how it would be looked after, and how people would actually borrow and use it.

04

Transportation Access

Mapping what transport already exists across the area, where the real gaps are, and what a complementary service might need to look like.

05

Land & Habitat Stewardship

Long-term care of the land itself — habitat, vegetation and site condition — alongside the community use of it.

06

Education & Demonstration

Sharing what the project learns, so the approach can be understood, evaluated and potentially repeated elsewhere.

How transportation is being approached

The working principle is coordinate first, fill gaps second.

Rather than assuming a new service is needed, the project is first looking at what already exists — public transportation, county resources, shared-ride options, volunteer driver programs and other community transportation — and at how residents could be helped to find and use it. Only where a genuine gap remains after that would a complementary option be considered.

Aspen does not operate transportation services. Nothing on this page should be read as a transportation service that is currently running or guaranteed to run.

Aspen’s Role

What Aspen is actually contracted to contribute.

Project management

Helping organize workstreams, schedules, partners, risks and implementation milestones.

Grant & funding strategy

Researching potential public, nonprofit, philanthropic, healthcare, conservation and community funding opportunities.

Implementation planning

Helping translate professional studies, community input, recommendations and funding requirements into actionable implementation plans.

Partner coordination

Supporting communication between specialists, nonprofit leadership, community organizations, consultants and implementation partners.

Land & site readiness

Where separately contracted and appropriately procured, Aspen may provide vegetation management, forestry mulching, land clearing or site-preparation services that fall within Aspen’s actual scope.

Where Aspen’s Role Ends

Stated plainly, because it matters for a project of this kind.

Aspen does not replace licensed engineers, surveyors, wetland professionals, accessibility-design professionals, healthcare professionals, transportation providers, or other licensed specialists.

Aspen’s role is coordination, planning, funding strategy and appropriately scoped implementation support. Technical requirements are determined by the qualified professionals engaged for that work, not by Aspen.

Funding status

One opportunity under consideration is the 2027 CCAM-TAC Community Rides Grant. It is being pursued and is at the application and partnership-development stage.

No grant has been awarded, approved or secured. No funding is in place, no services are funded, and no transportation launch is guaranteed. Any future service depends on funding decisions that have not been made.

This page will grow

Project photographs, community survey links, milestone updates, formally approved partner logos, grant updates and any future land documentation will be added here as they are confirmed and approved for public use.
