Why Forestry Mulching is Best for Pasture Reclamation

Traditional bulldozing scrapes the topsoil — the worst thing you can do to pasture ground you want to reseed. Forestry mulching is different:

  • ✔ Topsoil stays intact — critical for fast grass and forage establishment
  • ✔ Mulch stays on site — processed brush becomes organic material as it breaks down; pasture response depends on soil, moisture, seeding and management
  • ✔ No burn piles — no fire risk, no permit hassle, no waiting for conditions
  • ✔ Low ground pressure — our tracked equipment spreads machine weight over a broad contact area, though compaction risk still depends on soil moisture and site conditions
  • ✔ Grade stays natural — no windrows and no debris removal costs; rutting varies with soil moisture, terrain and machine traffic

Conservation Practices Aspen May Support

Aspen Land Management LLC provides mechanical vegetation-management and site-preparation services that may support implementation of selected NRCS conservation practices. Aspen’s mechanical brush and woody-vegetation work may support Brush Management (CPS 314) when that practice is included in an eligible landowner’s approved conservation plan and the project specifications match Aspen’s capabilities. Aspen may also provide mechanical site preparation that precedes or supports a separately planned Pasture and Hay Planting practice (CPS 512); Aspen does not perform the seeding or planting establishment that practice requires. Program eligibility, funding, practice selection, and implementation requirements are determined by NRCS. Under EQIP, NRCS and the participant develop an approved conservation plan, and payment is made after the practice is implemented, inspected, and found to meet NRCS standards and specifications. NRCS national Conservation Practice Standards establish baseline criteria; project-specific work must follow the applicable state Field Office Technical Guide and approved practice specifications.
